FG to eradicate challenges in the mining Industry, addresses illegal mining issues in the Country
The federal government has promised to totally eradicate challenges affecting the mining industry in a bid to addressing the issues surrounding illegal mining and to improve the substantial contribution of the solid mineral sector to the country’s gross domestic product.
The Deputy Director of Information and public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Alaba Balogun made this known on Thursday 7th March in a statement issued through the Ministry verified X handle.
The statement reads: “As part of efforts to curb the activities of illegal mining in the country and ensure the solid mineral sector contributes significantly to the gross domestic product of the economy, the Federal Government has stepped up its campaign drive towards eliminating the scourge besetting the sector.
“Speaking at a one-day stakeholders’ sensitization/enlightenment workshop titled: ‘’Illegal Mining, An Act of Economic Sabotage’’- organized by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in Ibadan; Engr Ajayi Gbenga, Zonal Mines Officer South West, explained that the spread of illegal mining in Oyo State and entire country, is an act of economic sabotage which had deprived the nation of substantial revenue, including causing serious environmental degradation.”
