Another road crash in Abia State, Killing 11 persons.– FRSC
The Abia State Corps Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Ngozi Ezeoma, in a statement confirmed a road the killing of 11 persons on Wednesday in Arungwa Village, along PortHarcourt-Enugu Expressway in a crash involving a Nissan Caravan commercial bus with registration number SSM 320 ZR, conveying 19 persons travelling to Enugu. The ill-fated bus rammed into a HOWO commercial truck with registration number T2828LA.
The statement also stated that a combine rescue team from FRSC RS 9.31 Aba and RS 9.32 KM78 Aba Unit Commands arrived at the scene of the crash within five minutes of notice and conducted rescue operations.
At the time of the crash, 10 persons were injured while nine others died on the spot. The injured victims were taken to the hospital in Aba, while bodies of the the dead victims were taken to the mortuary.
The Corps noted that during a hospital follow up on the crash victims, it was discovered that one male adult and one female adult died in the evening, while one of the victims was referred to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.
With this latest event, a total of 11 persons are confirmed dead.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the cause of the crash was as a result of over speeding.
This crash happened barely four days before after a similar crash on Enugu-Aba-PortHarcourt Expressway claimed five lives almost same spot.
