2026 WCQ playoffs: Eguavoen questions timing of Super Eagles’ strike
The Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Augustine Eguavoen, has questioned the timing of a pay dispute embarked upon by Super Eagles players.
“The timing of the strike was wrong. They might have had their reasons but the timing was not the best,” said Eguavoen.
The players refused to train on Tuesday to demand the payment of their outstanding bonuses.
The issue has now been resolved, with the players returning to training at the Institut Royal de Formation Des Cadres in Salé, outside Rabat, on Wednesday night.
Despite the interruption to their preparations, Eguavoen expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform.
“I have faith in them to rise up to the occasion and do the business on Thursday, and afterwards, on Sunday,” Eguavoen told thenff.com.
The Super Eagles will face the Gabonese Panthers in Rabat on Thursday, with kick-off scheduled for 5 pm Nigerian time.
