2026 WCQ playoffs: Rohr declares support for Super Eagles
Former Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed his support for the team to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs.
Eric Chelle’s side will compete for the sole qualification ticket alongside the Panthers of Gabon, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, and the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nigeria are set to face Gabon in the first semi-final of the playoffs at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat on Thursday, November 13. Cameroon will take on the Democratic Republic of Congo at the El Barid Stadium in Rabat on the same day.
Rohr, who managed the Super Eagles for five years before taking charge of neighbouring Benin Republic, believes Nigeria have the quality to triumph in the mini-tournament.
“Super Eagles have so many high level players and strikers, we tried against them but we could not do it,” Rohr said on Brila FM.
“We beat them during the qualifiers and it’s a result we were proud of but I will be supporting the Super Eagles in the playoffs.”
