Zamfara lawmaker Maharazu Faru defects to APC over governance failures

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has officially welcomed Maharazu Salisu Faru, the lawmaker representing Maradun 2 Constituency in the State House of Assembly, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The defection ceremony, held at the APC Secretariat in Gusau, was presided over by the State Party Chairman, Tukur Umar Danfulani.

Faru was accompanied by five former PDP ward chairmen—Ahmad Lawal (Sarkin Samari) of Gidan Goga Ward, Sanusi Ahmad Liman of Tsibiri Ward, Lawal Mohammed of Kaya Ward, Shingi Dan-Abu of Janbako Ward—as well as the ex-official PDP member for Maradun, Salisu Dodo Faru, along with hundreds of supporters.

Speaking at the event, Faru explained that he left PDP due to Governor Dauda Lawal’s “failure to fulfil campaign promises” and his “lack of concern” for the welfare of the people.

“Insecurity was the main reason people voted for him, but he has shown no concern for the plight of his constituents,” Faru said.

He accused the governor of marginalising the Maradun 2 Constituency and sidelining loyal party members.

“There is no fairness in Dauda’s administration. Only favoured PDP members and members of his cabal are reaping the dividends of democracy,” he said.

Faru described PDP as “a party in crisis at all levels,” adding that many of its members and governors are already defecting to APC.

He also noted that his defection was an expression of solidarity with the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, whom he praised for fostering unity within APC.
