The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has called on Governor Alex Otti to publicly declare his political allegiance ahead of the 2027 general elections, accusing him of maintaining an ambiguous political stance.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, alleged that Otti, a member of the Labour Party (LP), was attempting to retain the support of supporters of former presidential candidate Peter Obi while also maintaining cordial relations with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Aguoru contrasted Otti’s approach with that of Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, whom he described as politically consistent for openly backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“Whether one agrees with Soludo or not, there is something to be said about him for his political courage, honesty and consistency. He has made his position known and has never been known to speak from both sides of his mouth even during his campaign period,” Aguoru stated.
The APC spokesman argued that Otti had failed to clearly state where he stands politically, alleging that the governor was seeking to preserve support from the Obidient Movement and other opposition groups while simultaneously creating the impression that he supports the APC-led Federal Government.
According to Aguoru, Otti has avoided openly endorsing President Tinubu’s leadership or publicly backing his re-election bid despite what he described as the administration’s interventions in Abia State.
The APC also referenced the recent visit of the Renewed Hope National Media Tour to the state, alleging that Otti deliberately avoided personally receiving the delegation in order to distance himself from publicly acknowledging federal government projects in Abia.
Aguoru further claimed that the governor’s aides and political associates frequently criticise President Tinubu and the APC while the governor refrains from clarifying his position.
He challenged Otti to openly declare support for Tinubu if he genuinely believes in the president’s leadership and re-election project.
The APC spokesman said the party remained committed to securing victory for President Tinubu in Abia State during the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in its grassroots structure and membership strength.
Aguoru also accused the state government of failing to credit the Federal Government for infrastructure projects and other interventions in the state, alleging that some federally funded projects were being presented as achievements of the Abia State Government.
He maintained that Abia residents deserved clarity regarding the governor’s political loyalty and urged Otti to publicly state where his allegiance lies ahead of the next election cycle.
The APC further declared its determination to win the governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly elections in Abia in 2027.
