EPL: Tottenham sacks Postecoglou despite Europa League glory
Tottenham have fired Ange Postecoglou as their manager, despite winning the Europa League trophy.
The club decided to part ways with the Australian, following a poor Premier League campaign, where they lost 22 out of 38 fixtures.
However, Postecoglou ended Spurs’ 17-year wait for a trophy, by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
But their 17th-placed finish has left his position untenable.
Tottenham will now target the Brentford manager, Thomas Frank and Marco Silva of Fulham as possible Postecoglou’s replacement.
“We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club.
“Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.
“However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place,” a statement read in part.
