The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has agreed to have sent a document to embassies, high commissions, concerned parties, and airlines urging that no Nigerian with a a prove of a passport of being a Nigerian citizenship be denied entry into the country, even with an expired passport noting that an expired passport is a valid proof of citizenship.
The Service made this release known to the public through their verified X handle today 24 December 2023. The release has given an assurance to every Nigerian with an expired passport to be allowed entry into the Country as the passport is valid for entry. The release reads:
“This is absolutely correct.
We sent out a document (again) in this regard to embassies, high commissions, concerned parties and airlines in this regard.
You can’t refuse a Nigerian (with valid means of identity – expired or not) into his/her country.
Nigeria belongs to us all”.
