Saturday’s heavy rain had a limited effect on water levels in the Yser basin, recently hit by significant flooding.
On Saturday, almost five litres of water per square metre showered the Westhoek region. The water level is expected to fall below the alert threshold on Sunday, according to Waterinfo, the Flemish government’s hydrology website. However, more rainfall is forecast for Monday.
Sunday is anticipated to bring limited precipitation to the region. “Nevertheless, the situation will take some time to normalise and caution remains necessary,” warns Waterinfo. The expected downpours on Monday could prompt a fresh rise in water levels.
