INEC, NUJ forge partnership on voter education in Yobe
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Yobe State has called for stronger collaboration with journalists to improve voter outreach in the state.
The call was made by the Commission’s new Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Alhaji Nuhu Ibrahim, during a familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Yobe State Council Secretariat, in Damaturu on Tuesday.
He explained that the purpose of his visit was to foster a working relationship for the effective dissemination of electoral information.
With ongoing registration and other INEC activities across Yobe State, Ibrahim stressed that a closer media partnership is essential to keeping the public informed.
“With your cooperation, we can work efficiently to enlighten the public on our activities,” he stated, while also assuring journalists of his openness and commitment to sharing information promptly.
The chairman of NUJ Yobe Council, Rajab Mohammad Ismail, pledged the union’s full support, describing the media as a key partner in the electoral process.
He, however, appealed to INEC to provide timely notice for events to ensure effective coverage, particularly for journalists based outside the state capital.
