President Bola Tinubu has submitted the names of three nominees for the positions of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to the Senate for confirmation.
The correspondence was presented during the Senate’s plenary session on Tuesday, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio reading the letter from the President.
The nominations have been referred to the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for further review.
The committee has been tasked to conduct the necessary screening and submit its report promptly.
This move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the operational framework of the nation’s electoral body, ensuring its readiness for future elections.
The development comes alongside another significant request from the President seeking Senate approval for a fresh external loan of N1.77 trillion to address critical economic and developmental needs.
The Senate’s decision on the nominees is expected in the coming days.
