Man United Beat Chelsea 1-0 At Stamford Bridge To Boost Champions League Hopes – Arise News
Manchester United moved closer to securing a return to the UEFA Champions League after defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Matheus Cunha scoring the decisive first-half goal.
The result strengthened United’s position in the race for a top-four finish, while Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for Europe’s top competition suffered another major setback. The London club has now lost four consecutive Premier League matches for only the second time this century.
Chelsea again struggled in attack, failing to score for a fourth straight league defeat. The team has not found the net since 4 March.
Despite dominating possession and registering more shots, shots on target, and a higher expected goals (xG) total, Chelsea could not capitalize on their chances. Efforts from Estevao, Liam Delap, and Wesley Fofana all struck the woodwork.
United took their opportunity when Bruno Fernandes delivered a cut-back that Cunha finished first-time with clinical precision. The assist was Fernandes’ 18th in the Premier League this season, leaving him two short of the competition’s single-season record.
United supporters celebrated only their second league win at Stamford Bridge since 2002. Chelsea fans, frustrated by the club’s poor run, chanted for the return of better days during the closing stages.
