Niger Assembly Speaker assures stakeholders of commitment to peace, unity
The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, has assured stakeholders that the House remains committed to promoting peace and unity in the state through legislation.
This assurance was given during a public hearing on a bill to establish the Niger State Hisbah Board.
The public hearing was organised by the House Joint Committee on Religious Affairs and Judiciary and Legal Matters to gather stakeholders’ input on the proposed bill.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Mohammed Abubakar (Ustaz), member representing Chanchaga Constituency, seeks to promote Islamic values, moral counselling, and the reconciliation of civil disputes.
Sarkin-Daji, represented by Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris, Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Education and member representing Tafa Constituency, commended stakeholders for attending the public hearing.
The Speaker also highlighted some of the achievements of the House since its inauguration in 2023, including the passage of laws that benefit the people and the maintenance of order in society.
He further emphasised that the public hearing is a crucial step in the legislative process and assured that the Assembly will consider all inputs and submissions.
Stakeholders at the hearing included representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Sharia Court, Police, and Bureau of Religious Affairs, who all commended the Assembly for proposing the bill and made various submissions and suggestions.
