The Katsina State Police Command has repelled an attack by suspected bandits on Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages in Dandume Local Government Area, arresting one Suspect in the process.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, the incident occurred on April 28, at about 10:00 p.m., when a distress call alerted authorities to the invasion of the communities by a large number of heavily armed assailants.
Sadiq stated that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dandume swiftly mobilised a team of operatives to the scene.
“On arrival, the teams tactically engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled the attack, forcing the bandits to abandon their mission and flee in disarray with suspected casualties,” he said.
The force spokesman added that one suspected bandit was arrested during the operation.
The police, however, confirmed that two residents sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
He noted that the victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding well.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Umar Fage, commended the DPO and his team for their bravery and prompt response.
Fage also directed that a thorough investigation be conducted and ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
