BREAKING: Tension As 16 Sacked Plateau Lawmakers Storm Complex | PHOTOS + DETAILS
Sixteen former members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have landed the complex of the Assembly, insisting on resuming sitting despite being sacked by a court injunction.
They were however, refused entry into the complex.
Currently, there is heavy security details stationed in front of the complex to maintain law and order at the temporary Chamber of the Old Government House in Jos.
A police source told newsmen that;
“We are under instructions to screen anyone coming to the venue so as to be sure if you are a staff or hoodlums.”
Recall that an appeal court had in November 2023 sacked the 16 PDP lawmakers over lack of party structure and declared members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) as replacements.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday on their intention to resume sitting on Tuesday, the sacked lawmakers led by Ishaku Maren, said;
“It was even in the words of the Supreme Court that that Appeal Court judgement was a miscarriage of justice.
“I want to also state that even in law, it says that if there is an injury, there will certainly be a remedy.
“Our constituents are willing and ready to accompany us to the assembly tomorrow because they voted for us, and they are not ready to compromise that.”
