UCL: Why we played 2-2 with Qarabag FK – Chelsea manager Maresca
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has explained why his team were held to a 2-2 draw against Qarabag FK in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Estevao Willian gave Maresca’s side the lead in the 16th minute, but goals from Leandro Andrade and Marko Jankovic turned the game around for Qarabag before half-time.
In the second half, Alejandro Garnacho struck to restore parity for the west London club.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Maresca admitted that his side were not clinical enough in front of goal. He added that while Chelsea began the game strongly, they failed to sustain their momentum and were punished by the hosts.
“The intention is always because we think the plan with the players is the correct one,” Maresca said.
“Today, we started the right way, scored the goal, but then we conceded two, the first one when they had 10 players.
“We can avoid both goals. In their box, we need to be more clinical.”
