Students from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State have staged a protest against the 82-day power outage at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, where many of them receive medical training.
The protest, which took place early on Wednesday, was led by Bolaji Aweda, the President of the Students’ Union (SU).
Aweda explained the impact of the power cut on both students and the hospital’s operations.
The students lamented that for 82 days, there has been no power at UCH due to the failure of UCH to pay its electricity bills.
The power outage has been ongoing since March 2024, following a cut-off by the electricity firm due to unpaid bills.
The University of Ibadan Students’ Union had previously issued a 7-day ultimatum to the federal government to resolve the issue, prompting their current action.
