President Bola Tinubu has explained why he failed to visit Yelawata, the massac-re site in Guma local government area of Benue state on Wednesday.
Tinubu who flew to Benue state days after members of Yelawata community were kill-ed and burn-t in their hundreds by suspected Fulani herders, said the rain, flood and bad road stopped him from conducting an on-site inspection.
Speaking while addressing ommunity leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders at the Benue state government house in Makurdi, the president said;
“I aborted my visit to Yelewata because of the rain, bad roads, and particularly, seeing the ruins and the carnage on camera.”..……
Taking to his X handle, Tinubu further stated;
“I was in Benue today. The scale of destruction and loss is heartbreaking. To the good people of Benue, I see your pain. I feel it with you. And I assure you, we will not leave you behind. We will restore peace, rebuild, and bring the perpetrators to justice. You are not alone.”
